Shaping training landscapes - Academic primary qualification in nursing care

Joint health focus of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences and the University of Trier

The Department of Social and Health Sciences, which is responsible for nursing degree programs, is active in the fields of action 1 "Future-oriented forms of training, studies and continuing education in nursing" and 2 "Further development and framework conditions for the nursing professions". In the sub-field of action "Shaping training landscapes II Developing academic nursing training", it was agreed: "The structural framework conditions for the implementation of higher education nursing training in accordance with Part 3 of the PflBG will be clarified, taking into account the proposals of the Science Council and the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Structure Commission and, together with the higher education legislation, will form the basis for the development of possible academic primary qualification courses" (FQI 2.0, p. 24). Professor Dr. Esther Berkemer and Professor Dr. Armin Leibig from the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences and Professors Dr. Margit Haas and Dr. Heike Spaderna from the University of Trier are in charge of this. Their contribution reads: "The universitiesare contributing their expertise. The start of academic primary qualification courses can be expected for the winter semester 2020/2021 at the earliest, including the necessary accreditation" (ibid.). This is where the joint health focus of the university and the University of Trier created by the Ministry of Science in June is beginning to bear fruit.

Further agreements have been reached between the universities in the area of academic nursing training. Field of action 1.6 "Developing academic staff"under the leadership of the Ministry of Science states: "The universitiesare prepared to further develop existing study programs in the professional field of nursing appropriately and/or to create new study programs. To this end, they work together with the associations of institutions and facilities in the health and care sector. Furthermore, the universities are working to prevent students from dropping out of nursing degree programs by means of suitable preventive measures or to support students who have dropped out in their transition to vocational nursing training"(ibid. p. 18).
