Shaping training landscapes - Academic primary qualification in nursing care

Joint health focus of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences and the University of Trier

In the fields of action 1 "Future-oriented forms of training, study and further training in nursing" and 2 "Further development and framework conditions for the nursing professions", the social and health care department responsible for the study programs in nursing is active. In the sub-field of action "Shaping training landscapes II Developing academic nursing training", the following was agreed: "The structural framework conditions for the implementation of university-based nursing training in accordance with Part 3 of the PflBG will be clarified with the inclusion of the proposals of the Science Council and the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Structure Commission and, together with the provisions of higher education law, will form the basis for the development of possible academic primary qualification courses" (FQI 2.0, p. 24). Professor Dr. Esther Berkemer and Professor Dr. Armin Leibig from the University of Applied Sciences in Ludwigshafen and Professors Dr. Margit Haas and Dr. Heike Spaderna from the University of Trier are in charge of this. Their contribution reads: "The universitiescontribute their competences. With the inclusion of the necessary accreditation, the start of study operations of academic primary qualification offers can be expected at the earliest for the winter semester 2020/2021" (ibid.). At this point, the joint health focus of the university and the University of Trier, which was created by the Ministry of Science in June, is beginning to bear fruit.

In the area of academic nursing education, further agreements have been reached between the universities. Regarding field of action 1.6 "Developing academic personnel"under the leadership of the Ministry of Science, it states: "The universitiesare prepared to appropriately develop existing study programs in the professional field of nursing and/or to create new study programs. To this end, they work together with the associations of facility providers and institutions in the health and care sector. Furthermore, the universities are working towards using suitable preventive measures to avert students dropping out of nursing degree courses or to support students who have dropped out in making the transition to vocational nursing training"(ibid. p. 18).
